Twitter Reactions: Lalit Yadav, Axar Patel pull off a heist as Delhi snatch win from jaws of defeat
Delhi defeated Mumbai by 4 wickets to get their Indian T20 League 2022. At one point, Delhi looked done and dusted but a match-winning partnership of 75 runs snatches win from the jaws of defeat.
Having lost the toss, Mumbai was asked to bat first. Skipper Rohit Sharma and million-dollar man Ishan Kishan gave the team a blistering start. The duo added 67 runs in eight overs before Rohit departed. Mumbai kept on losing regular wickets but the run rate never came down, thanks to Ishan Kishan, who scored a magnificent 81*. Kishan’s knock helped Mumbai post 177-5.
Chasing a big total, Delhi got off to a perfect start with Prithvi Shaw and Tim Seifert going all out at Mumbai bowlers. Tim Seifert was the first one to go at a team score of 30. Soon after, Mandeep Singh departed without troubling the scorers. Pant too failed to make an impact and was dismissed for 1, leaving Delhi tottering at 32-3. Prithvi Shaw kept the scoreboard ticking but back to back wickets of Shaw and Powell ended Delhi’s hopes. However, Lalit Yadav (48) and Axar Patel (38) revived their hopes and took them over the line.
Here’s what the skipper have to say:
Rohit Sharma | losing captain: I thought it was a good score. It didn’t look like a pitch where you can get 170+ at the start but we played in the middle and finished well. Just didn’t bowl according to our plans. Never been the talk (of badly wanting to win the first game). We always come prepared whether it’s the first game or last game. We want to win every game. Things didn’t go according to plan but that can happen. Just need to stay close as a group and take the learnings. Disappointed with the loss but not the end.
That's some win for Delhi Capitals, who destroyed the weaker bowlers (Sams and Thampi) before the final overs. Could Rohit Sharma have been more aggressive in trying to finish the game with Bumrah and Mills before the last two overs?#IPL2022 #DCvMI

Absolute heist this from Lalit Yadav and Axar Patel. MI bottled it with Thampi and Sams just falling apart, but the Delhi lads hung in so well – to go from a required rate of just under 12, to winning with 10 balls to spare is pretty ridiculous

Importance of batting depth on display. Delhi Capitals bat deep. Game on

IPL has sparked to life. Mumbai Indian stuck to their tradition of losing the first match #DCvsMI

Superb run chase by #DC, putting #MI biwlers to the sword. How Jasprit Bumrah was tamed was the decisive factor and also the highlight of the match
