IPL 2024
‘Truly nailed it’ – Twitter users bow down to Gujarat as they comprehensively beat Lucknow
Gujarat bundled Lucknow for just 82 runs in the second innings
Gujarat have fittingly become the first team to qualify for the Indian T20 League 2022 Playoffs. The 57th match of this season saw them absolutely humiliate Lucknow. Amidst all the hype pertaining to this game, the Hardik Pandya-led side beat the KL Rahul-led in a rather one-sided manner.
This victory would certainly put a smile on the faces of all the Gujarat fans. The Gujarat-based franchise read the conditions brilliantly as the pitch wasn’t really batting-friendly. Upon realizing the same, the Gujarat batters played it safe, and didn’t take too many risks. Shubman Gill was superb in particular.
Despite the continuous loss of wickets at the other end, the 22-year-old showcased some brilliant temperament, and played the role of an anchor to perfection. He scored 63 runs from 49 balls. While his knock came at a strike rate of 128.57, it consisted of seven fours. Another important point to be noted is the fact that only one six was hit by the Gujarat batters in the first innings. This shows how difficult the conditions were.
Nevertheless, Rahul Tewatia played an impactful cameo as he scored a 16-ball 22. He hit four fours. Thus, the Gujarat-based franchise got to 144-4. As for Lucknow’s bowlers, Avesh Khan was superb as he picked two wickets in his full quota of four overs, and gave just 26 runs. Mohsin Khan was once again impressive as he only gave 18 runs in his four overs, and also picked a wicket.
As far as the second innings is concerned, Gujarat’s bowlers were all over Lucknow’s batters. They were right on the money, and were excellent, to say the least. They dismissed KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock rather early. The Lucknow-based franchise never really recovered from that, and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Neither could they get the big partnerships, nor could any of their batters get to a big score.
Deepak Hooda scored the most number of runs for Lucknow in this game (27). Rashid Khan was at his absolute best as he went on to pick a fabulous four-fer. Besides, he only gave 24 runs in the 3.5 overs. Thus, Lucknow were bundled for just 82, and could only bat for 13.5 overs. This was Gujarat’s ninth win of this edition. This victory has enabled them to go back to the top of the points table as well.

I wasn't able to watch the game.. Just watched the first 9 overs of GT batting, but those 9 overs made it clearly evident that wicket was tough to bat on… Kudos to Gill on stitching such a beautiful innings… It was always going to chase for LSG… #IPL2022 #GTvLSG

This is some Punjab level bottling and Mumbai level comeback. KL and Hardik are still feeling home.
