Many foreign athletes have taken over the Indian T20 League with their extraordinary talent. Many of the seasoned cricketers have put on outstanding performances during the tournament, from Shane Warne to AB de Villiers. With the auction for the 2023 season just around the corner, an era of overseas cricketers might have come to an end. In this article, we will have a look at some of the overseas players who opted out of the Indian T20 League auction.

#1 Kieron Pollard

Right before the teams announced their list of retained players, Mumbai’s star Kieron Pollard announced his retirement from the Indian T20 League. He was always a dependable player for the team in any situation, so it shocked all of the Mumbai fans.

However, to everyone’s relief, he announced that he would take up the position of Mumbai’s batting coach for the upcoming season. It would be interesting to see how well he does in this new role for his franchise.

#2 Steve Smith

Australia’s star batter Steve Smith went unsold in the mega auction last season, and now, he has decided to opt-out of the tournamnet altogether. In the quickest format of the game, Smith is no longer regarded as one of the best players.

The right-handed batter has left a long legacy behind, having played over a hundred matches in the tournament. The veteran last played for the Delhi team in the 2021 season. Smith surely will be missed in the upcoming edition.

#3 Pat Cummins

Australia’s captain Pat Cummins opted out of the Indian T20 League 2023, citing a heavy international schedule. He played his last three seasons with the Kolkata team but cut short his 2022 camping due to an injury.

“I’ve made the difficult decision to miss next year’s Indian T20 League. The international schedule is packed with Tests and ODI’s for the next 12 months, so will take some rest ahead of an Ashes series and World Cup, ” he wrote in his tweet. “Thanks so much to @KKRiders  for their understanding. Such a terrific team of players and staff and I hope I can get back there ASAP.”
