Top five Indian batters with most sixes in ODIs

India is the No. 1 ranked side in ODIs, a feat they achieved after back-to-back clean sweeps in consecutive ODI series against Sri Lanka and New Zealand at home. Many Indians hold a few unique records in the 50-over game, including the highest individual score in an innings of 264 scored by the current India skipper Rohit Sharma.

As such, fans enjoy watching the limited-overs game to see the big-hitting that’s usually on show. Which Indian batters do you think are on the list of most maximums in ODIs? Here are the top five Indian batters with most sixes in ODIs.

5. Yuvraj Singh – 155 sixes

Yuvraj Singh is a name synonymous with big-hitting; the Punjab man has hit a total of 155 maximums in his 278 innings, the 14th highest in the world. ‘Yuvi’ is an Indian legend in ODIs, his contributions in the 2011 World Cup triumph whilst battling cancerous growth in his body is something no Indian fan would ever forget.

He has a total run tally of 8701 runs in ODIs alongside the highest score of 150. He has smashed 13 hundreds and 52 fifties whilst batting at an average of 36.55. Notably, he has scored 908 fours in his ODI career.

4. Sourav Ganguly – 190 sixes

The next player on the list is none other than the prince of Kolkata – Sourav Ganguly. In 300 ODI innings, he has scored 190 maximums, making his place in the top 10 batters in the game to have scored the highest number of sixes in ODIs. Talking of historic moments from his ODI career, in the 1999 World Cup, he was involved in a 318 runs partnership with Rahul Dravid, which remains the highest partnership in World Cup history.

His career run tally in ODIs is 11363, averaging 41.02. Ganguly has also scored 1122 fours in the 50-over game whilst smashing 22 hundreds and 72 fifties.

3. Sachin Tendulkar – 195 sixes

We kick off the top 3 with the master blaster, Sachin Tendulkar, who has hit five sixes more than Sourav Ganguly to sit at number 9 in the list of batters with the most maximums in ODIs. Of all historical moments, the moment when Tendulkar reached the landmark 100th international hundred in an ODI against Bangladesh at Dhaka remains the most special.

Often dubbed the ‘God of Cricket’, Tendulkar has 49 hundreds and 96 fifties to his credit in the 50-overs game. His humongous run tally of 18426 runs is a world record. He batted at an average of 44.83 in his 452 innings and registered a highest score of 200*.

2. MS Dhoni – 229 sixes

At number 2, MS Dhoni sits comfortably at a difference of 34 sixes to Sachin Tendulkar’s tally of 195. With 229 sixes, MS Dhoni makes his way into the top five batters with the most sixes in ODIs. MS Dhoni hit the historical six in the final of the 2011 World Cup against Sri Lanka, winning India the coveted trophy after 28 years.

Dhoni’s career ODI run tally accounts for 10773 runs with the highest score of 183 whilst batting at an exceptional average of 50.57. He has scored 826 fours and registered 10 centuries and 73 fifties in his 297 ODI innings.

1. Rohit Sharma – 273 sixes

On number 1, we have the man with the most double centuries in the 50-overs game. Rohit Sharma has 273 maximums to his credit, the third highest in the world. Only Chris Gayle and Shahid Afridi have hit more maximums in ODIs. Rohit Sharma has hit three double centuries against Sri Lanka, Australia and South Africa.

Sharma has a career ODI run tally of 9782, batting at an average of 48.91. He has 30 centuries and 48 fifties in ODIs. He has hit 896 fours in the 50-overs game alongside registering a mammoth highest individual score of 264, a world record.
