Top Five English Cricketers To Watch Out For In Indian T20 League 2022

Published on

A little more than two weeks are left in the start of the Indian T20 League 2022. Several England cricketers will participate in the 15th season, starting March 26. Last month, Jason Roy pulled out of the league citing bio-bubble fatigue. Apart from him, all prominent England players are available. These cricketers are one of the finest as far as limited-overs cricket is concerned.

Some of these cricketers have previously played the cash-rich league, while some will play it for the first time. In this listicle, we will discuss the top five English cricketers to watch out for in the upcoming season.

Top Five English Cricketers

1.Moeen Ali

England all-rounder Moeen Ali has the experience of playing the league for four years. From 2018 to 2020, he played for Bangalore. In 2021, he was signed by Chennai and will feature for the same team this year. The left-hander was retained by the Yellow brigade last November. Talking about his ITL numbers, the 2019 World Cup winner has played 34 games and amassed 666 runs, averaging 22.96 and striking at 146.37. The 34-year-old had a great time with the bat last year while batting at number three as he accumulated 357 runs in 15 games. This year, it will be interesting how he goes given that he retired from Test cricket last year to concentrate on white-ball cricket.

2. Sam Billings

The wicketkeeper has played 22 games and mustered 334 runs from 2016 to 2021. He has played for Delhi and Chennai in this period. This year, he will feature for Kolkata. Except for 2018, where he got to play 10 games for Chennai, he hasn’t got enough opportunities. The right-hander has been a phenomenal player in different T20 leagues over the years. This could be the reason Kolkata might have bought the Englishman. It will be interesting to see if he can improve his ITL numbers this year.

3. Mark Wood

The pacer is the only player not to have enough experience of playing the ITL. He was signed by Lucknow this year, which will play their first ITL. Before this, the right-arm pacer has played only one game in 2018 for Chennai.

4. Jonny Bairstow

The England ODI opener has been a force to reckon with in the ITL. He made his debut in 2019 for Hyderabad and played for the team till 2021. In this period, the right-hander played 28 games and amassed 1038 runs, averaging 41.52 and striking at 142.19. This year, he will play for Punjab and it will be interesting to see where he bats in the team.

5. Jos Buttler

England wicketkeeper-batter has played for Mumbai and Rajasthan from 2016 to 2021. He started his ITL career with Mumbai in 2016 but moved to Rajasthan in 2018. In this period, he played 65 games and amassed 1968 runs, averaging 35.14 and striking at 150. He will play for Rajasthan this year as he was retained by the franchise.
