The India vs England Test series has seen many batters leaving their mark on the rich cricketing history between the two nations with their phenomenal batting performances. The cricketing relations between the two nations date back to 25th June 1932 when the two countries played a Test match against each other for the first time. This was also India’s first-ever Test match.

With the abundant batting talent available in India, many players have enjoyed a prolific run against England. Here’s looking at the top 3 Indian batters with the most runs in a Test series against England.

  1. Virat Kohli (655 runs in 2016) 

There would hardly be any batting record list from India where Virat Kohli won’t feature. Virat was having his best year in terms of batting in 2016. The former Indian captain scored 655 runs in 8 innings of the 5-match series.

Virat averaged 109 in the series with 2 fifties and 2 hundreds to his name. His highest score of the series came in the 4th Test at Wankhede Stadium Mumbai where he scored 235 which was also his highest Test score at that time.

2. Rahul Dravid (602 runs in 2002) 

The ‘wall’ of the Indian batting line-up and the current coach of the team Rahul Dravid was seen at his best in England in the Test Series of the year 2002. Dravid scored 602 runs in 6 innings and was the second-highest run-getter of the series.

He averaged 100.33 with 3 hundreds and 1 fifties to his name. His highest score of the series came in the 4th match at the Oval where he scored 217 runs before getting run-out.

3. Virat Kohli (593 in 2018)

The fans were eagerly waiting for the Test series of 2018 between India and England only to see if Virat will be able to fight his demons of 2014 and finally score a hundred in England. The moment of the series arrived on Day 2 of the first Test Match when Kohli was up against his nemesis in 2014 James Anderson.

Virat seemed to struggle a bit early on as he was beaten by Anderson on numerous occasions. He was even dropped by David Malan in the slip cordon off the bowling of Anderson. This was just the thing that Virat needed as he went on to score a magnificent 149 thus putting the nightmare of the 2014 series behind him. This was also his highest score of the series. Virat scored 2 hundreds and 3 fifties in the series and got the Player of the Series award from the Indian side.
