‘Took odd even seriously’- Gautham Gambhir draws flak on Twitter for endorsing alcohol brand after quoting Mahatma Gandhi
Gautham Gambhir is a current member of Lok Sabha
Cricketers in India enjoy unparalleled fame the likes of which not even many actors and politicians enjoy. Naturally, Gautham Gambhir? who has been both, a cricketer? as well as a politician, is incredibly famous in the country. This fame however also comes with added responsibility as famous people have to make sure they don’t give out wrong messages to young fans.
Gambhir seems to have done just that with his new ad. While doing these ads is nothing new for actors and cricketers, Gambhir is getting extra flak on social media as he once claimed alcohol to be bad for the soul and body.
Gambhir had tweeted, “Mahatma Gandhi said- Alcohol destroys both body and soul.” On 19th August 2022. As his new ad for a company that makes alcoholic beverages surfaced, users on Twitter started calling out Gambhir for his hypocrisy.

Users also trolled the ad for using nationalism to promote an alcohol brand. The ad has a picture of Gambhir with the captain reading, “They say he always wanted to fight for his country.”
Gambhir was one of India’s best batters when he played the game. He has been instrumental in many of India’s wins the biggest of which was the World Cup final against Sri Lanka in 2011. The 40-year-old made 97 runs in the final to help the country complete a great run chase against Sri Lanka.
In total the southpaw made over 4000 runs in Tests along with 5238 runs in ODIs. The Delhi born also made 932 runs in T20Is for the national team. Elsewhere he took the Kolkata side to multiple Indian T20 League wins with his captaincy. In the Indian T20 League, he made 4218 runs in 154 matches at an average of 31 with the highest of 93 runs.
Twitter has been buzzing after the image of Gambhir featuring in an alcohol brand ad surfaced online. Let’s look at some of the trolling that Gambhir has received on Twitter.
