The Tamil Nadu Premier League 2022 final between Chepauk Super Gillies and Kovai Kings was scheduled for July 31st, with one team expected to win the month-long tournament. In an unexpected turn of events, both sides were asked to share the trophy.

The rain came in as a spoilsport to fans as the start of the match was delayed by two hours. The TNPL 2022 Final match was then modified to be a 17-over affair. After winning the toss, CSG, the three-time winners, elected to bowl. Kovai Kings suffered an early blow as they lost their opener J Suresh Kumar (5) at a team score of 10. The other opener Ganga Sridhar Raju (27) held his wicket and made a 41-run partnership with Sai Sudharsan (65). None of the other LKK batters apart from their captain Shahrukh Khan (22) got going and the team was only able to reach 138/9 in their allocated 17 overs.

Sandeep Warrier from CSG came up with four wickets with Sai Kishore taking three himself.

Coming on to chase the target, CSG got off to a very poor start. At 14, the TNPL holders lost two wickets. Captain Kaushik Gandhi (1) was the first to depart at the team score of three. The CSG team was put into a great spot of bother when they lost their second wicket at just 14 runs. Narayan Jagadeesan (2) was dismissed by Yudheeshwaran V in the fourth over to bring LKK one step nearer to the win.

However, this was when the rain came again and stopped play. As it was continuing pouring at the venue, it was decided that the match would have to be abandoned. The umpires decided to allow both teams to share the trophy as the second innings had not crossed the minimum mark for the application of the Duck worth lewis method.

Both CSG and LKK shared the Tamil Nadu Premier League trophy for the 2021 season making it LKK’s first and CSG’s fourth overall.
