Tim David to play for Australia? Aaron Finch answers
Mumbai were inactive for a lot of time during the mega auction. However, they quickly unleashed their ruthlessness when Tim David’s name was called out. After an intense bidding war, the five-time champions managed to acquire his services for a whopping amount of INR 8.25 crore.
In the meanwhile, David has been in superb form of late. In the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL), he has scored 234 runs in eight games at an average of 46.80. Thus, Aaron Finch spoke really highly of him as well.Â
Australia’s limited-overs skipper felt that David’s ability to clear the ropes helped him in fetching such a huge contract during the mega auction. It is to be noted that the middle-order batter is eligible to play for Australia under the rules. As for Finch, he is currently playing the five-match T20I series against Sri Lanka.Â
“That’s one part guys really get paid to do … because it’s a hole in lots of teams. Every team in the world would love a bit more power in their middle order. We’re really lucky with [Marcus] Stoinis, [Glenn] Maxwell, [Daniel] Sams, [Matthew] Wade, Tim David is on the radar, Ashton Turner, these guys all have a lot of power. That’s something most guys get excited about,” said Aaron Finch, as quoted by Sydney Morning Herald.Â
Of late, even Matthew Wade went on to praise David. He appreciated the hitting ability of the Multan Sultans batter. Further on, the keeper-batter felt that he could play for Australia in 20-20 World Cup if he does well in the upcoming edition of the Indian T20 league.Â
“If he puts a good ITL together and gets some runs in some cricket back here, I’m sure he’ll be on the radar for the World Cup. I’m sure the (Australia) selectors will be speaking to him and keeping in touch. I’d love to see him get an opportunity and I’m sure he will down the track,†said Matthew Wade, as quoted by cricket.com.au.
