Field hockey player Major Dhyan Chand, who represented India, is regarded as one of the all-time greats. He was renowned for his exceptional ball control and goal-scoring prowess during a time when India dominated field hockey. Beyond these triumphs, India won the field hockey competition in seven of the eight Olympics from 1928 to 1964, demonstrating the influence of this player. #1 Most career goals – 570

Major Dhyan Chand of India has the most international goals in classic field hockey with 570 goals in 185 international games. Paul Litjens of the Netherlands was the player who scored the most goals in modern hockey on artificial turf and was the second-highest international goal scorer in the sport.

In 177 games, he totalled 267 goals for his country. From 1982 to 2004, he held the record for the most goals scored by an international team on artificial turf, but Pakistan’s Sohail Abbas broke it in a match against India in Amritsar in 2004.

#2 Most goals in Olympics – 101

The former Indian Captain scored as many as 101 goals in the history of the Olympics, the most by any player in the tournament. However, he scored the most number of these goals in the first edition India was a part of in 1928.

Dhyan Chand scored 4, 1, 4, 3, and 2 goals, respectively, to help India win its five matches by scores of 6-0, 9-0, 5-0, 6-0, and 3-0, for a total of 14 goals scored throughout the tournament. Dhyan Chand, who helped India win the Olympic Hockey Tournament in Amsterdam in 1928, was added to the list of Indian players with the most goals.

#3 Three consecutive Olympic gold medals

After competing in the Olympic Games in 1928 and 1932, Chand led the Indian team at the 1936 Berlin Games, scoring three goals in the 8-1 victory over Germany in the championship game. He scored 133 goals during India’s successful 1932 world tour.

Dhyan Chand had previously played under Jaipal Singh Munda at the 1928 Olympics in Amsterdam and for Lal Bokhari at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. He won a few Olympic gold medals after that, but he had his dream run between 1928 and 1932.
