Pakistan skipper Babar Azam has been the team’s most prolific player in recent times. His performance across the formats for the Men in Green has gained appreciation from all across the world. However, due to political differences between India and Pakistan, Babar has never been a part of the Indian T20 League. He would have dominated the competition as well if he had participated. In this article, we will have a look at the teams that would have loved to sign Babar Azam in the Indian T20 League 2023 auction.

#1 Hyderabad

The Hyderabad team entered the December 23 auction with the largest remaining purse value. As predicted, they targeted some well-known individuals and gave it their all. However, they could only get their hands on a few big names.

They could have easily targeted and acquired the Pakistani captain for the upcoming season had he been up for bid. With Kane Williamson no longer being a contender, Babar would have made a fantastic captain for The Orange Army.

#2 Gujarat

The defending champions, Gujarat, had a pretty decent side ahead of the auctions, and they were looking to strengthen it even further. They were successfully able to do that in the auction with the addition of a few new players.

Babar Azam could have been a part of the Gujarat team’s core going ahead. He could also have served as their opener in the tournament, which would have filled in a major void for the team led by all-rounder Hardik Pandya.

#3 Kolkata

The auction that the Kolkata team was looking for was not obtainable for the team. They don’t have a strong opening option on the team, and their batting lineup is not very deep. While they have plenty of overseas players, none can serve as their opener.

A great addition to the group could have been Babar Azam, a well-known opener for the Pakistani team. He has the right temperament required for an opening batter, and he could have been a match-winner for the two-time champions.
