The BCCI has announced India’s T20I squad for the home series against South Africa, which is to be played in June this year. As expected, the selectors have put together a second-string squad to give rest to their senior players. Players such as Umran Malik and Arshdeep Singh have earned their maiden call-up to the national side.

On the other hand, there are players such as Bhuvenshwar Kumar, Dinesh Karthik, and Hardik Pandya who have made a comeback. However, there are some big names who missed out on the squad. They were expected to be a part of the team, but weren’t selected. Hence, It is safe to call them “unlucky”. Thus, in this listicle, we will discuss three unlucky players to miss out on the selection.

Three unlucky players who missed out

  1. Shikhar Dhawan

The veteran had led the team last year, when the BCCI had put together a second-string side for the tour of Sri Lanka. For the upcoming series, a lot of all format players were meant to be rested. Thus, Dhawan was expected to lead the team once again. However, in a surprising turn of events, KL Rahul has been handed the responsibility to lead the team in the series. It is to be noted that Rahul is bound for the England tour on which the team will play one Test match. Most of the players to be playing in that game have been rested.

2. Sanju Samson

The wicketkeeper batter was expected to make it to the squad as he had done well in the last international series. Earlier this year, he played against Sri Lanka, and played some good knocks. Also, he has had a decent time as a batter in the Indian T20 League 2022 while playing for Rajasthan. The right-hander has got 374 runs in 14 games averaging 28.77 and striking at 147.24 including two fifties.

3. Rahul Tripathi

The explosive batter had high chances of making it to the team due to his great form. The right-hander has amassed 393 runs in 13 games, averaging 39.30 and striking at 161.73 with three half-centuries. Also, he was expected to be the player to bat at number three in the absence of Surykumar Yadav, who is not part of the series due to an injury. However, to everyone’s surprise, Tripathi has missed out on the selection. This omission has definitely shocked the cricket fraternity, as well as the fans
