With India’s campaign in the 20-20 World Cup 2022 ending on a low note, there has been a lot of talk about changes to follow in the T20I team setup. There have also been numerous reports that Rohit Sharma may retire from the game’s shortest format. If that actually turns out to be true, India has a few options that can replace the 35-year-old. This listicle will look at some of the possible replacements for Rohit Sharma as India’s T20I captain.

1. KL Rahul

The star batter KL Rahul is currently the Vice Captain of the Indian team in all formats. He has the highest chance of becoming the next in charge of the Men in Blue in T20I cricket. In the absence of Rohit Sharma, Rahul has also led the team in a few bilateral series.

The 30-year-old also leads the Lucknow team in the Indian T20 League. As evidenced by his individual success in the cash-rich league, the opening batter handles the responsibility well. With the added responsibility, he can do well for the Indian team as well.

2. Hardik Pandya

The star all-rounder Hardik Pandya surprised everyone with his excellent captaincy in the Indian T20 League 2022. He guided the league debutants, Gujarat, to their maiden title in the tournament. He defied all the odds to take his team through.

After the tournament, Hardik also got an opportunity to lead India against Ireland in a two-match T20I series. In the absence of most of the senior players, he performed admirably to lead India to a 2-0 victory.

3. Rishabh Pant

The wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has emerged as one of India’s most important players in all formats of the game. He has been handling the captaincy of his Indian T20 League franchise, Delhi, for some time now and has fared well.

Earlier this year, the 25-year-old was also given the opportunity to lead India in a five-match T20I series against South Africa. While his captaincy did not start well with losses in the first two games, he bounced back to win the next two. The series eventually ended in a tie, with the final game being rained out.
