Virat Kohli had a great start to the new year with a century in his first match of 2023. Playing in the first match of the ODI series against Sri Lanka, Virat scored his 45th century in the format to help his team to a victory. Now, the former Indian captain has a fantastic opportunity to break some incredible international cricket records. Virat will look forward to an exciting year ahead of him. In this article, we will look at some of the major records that Virat Kohli might break this year.

With the upcoming World Cup in mind, the Indian team will play a large number of One-Day International (ODI) matches in 2023. Thus, Virat Kohli could surpass Sachin Tendulkar‘s tally of 49 ODI centuries to become the batsman with the most centuries in ODI history.

To break this record, Virat Kohli needs five more ODI centuries in 2023. Given that Virat has already scored a century in this format this year, he will be high on confidence for the remainder of the year.

#2 First batter to reach 7000 runs in Indian T20 League

Virat Kohli currently holds the record for most runs scored in the Indian T20 League, with 6624 from 215 innings. Kohli would need 376 runs in the upcoming 2023 edition to become the tournament’s first batsman to reach the 7000-run mark.

The 34-year-old has had tremendous success in the cash-rich league, with his best performance coming in 2016. He scored 973 runs in the season, including four centuries, the most by any batter in a single season.

#3 Fifth batsman to reach 13K runs in ODIs & sixth batsman to reach 25K runs in international cricket

In his career, Virat Kohli has scored 12,584 ODI runs in 257 innings and 24,711 international runs in 541 innings. He needs 416 more ODI runs to reach 13,000, and by doing so, he will also surpass the 25,000 international run mark.

Only one other Indian, former Indian great Sachin Tendulkar, has accomplished both of these feats. The former Indian Captain would want to include his name in this elite list of players in the matches this year.
