Defending champions Chennai have had a rough season in the ongoing Indian T20 League 2022 so far. In the six games they have played, they have managed to win only one of them. Their pace bowling has been poor. The injuries to Deepak Chahar and Adam Milne haven’t helped either. Talking about their batting, apart from Ruturaj Gaikwad, the others have done decently. However the opener gained some form with a fifty against Gujarat.

Meanwhile, they are missing a lot of key players who contributed to their title-winning campaign last year. Faf du Plessis, who is now playing for Bangalore, was the second-highest run-getter last season. In this listicle, we will discuss three players who are performing well after leaving the franchise this year.

Three players who are performing well

  1. Faf du Plessis

Former South Africa was bought by Bangalore and was appointed as the skipper of the team ahead of the season. The right-hander has hit 250 runs in seven games averaging 35.71 and striking at 132.27. These runs include two half-centuries, one against Punjab, and one against Lucknow, where he missed out on a hundred by four runs. With these kind of performances, the four-time winners must be ruing to the fact that they let him enter the mega auction pool. Notably, Chennai and Bangalore were battling hard to acquire the services of the 37-year-old.

2. Josh Hazlewood

The right-arm pacer from Australia didn’t play the first four games as he was with this national side for the multi-format series in Pakistan. In his first game against Chennai, he was taken to the cleaners as his bowling figures read four overs 33 runs and one wicket. However, he made his comeback in the game against Delhi, where he took three wickets for 28 runs. In the last game against Lucknow, the 2021 T20 World Cup winner took four wickets. Last year, he played for Chennai in the UAE-leg. After watching his bowling, the Yellow Brigade must be regretting their decision to let a bowler like him go.

3. Krishnappa Gowtham

The all-rounder from Karnataka has played only two games for Lucknow so far. However, in the limited opportunities he has got, he has picked three wickets averaging 17.67, striking at 16 and has an economy rate of 6.63. He is no mug with the bat either. Talking about his batting, the right-hander has scored 111 runs in 26 games batting down the order striking at 167.57. Chennai are currently lacking a player like him in the team with only Ravindra Jadeja being the only player with the same set of skills as him.
