Day 3 of the 4th Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy saw plenty of runs scored by the bats of the Indians. Just like the previous two days, there was nothing on offer for the bowlers on the wicket, and the batters had a great outing. Indian captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill resumed the day at a score of 36/0 and continued to perform well.

While Rohit played a couple of good shots, he could not hold on for much longer as Matthew Kuhnemann got his wicket for a team score of 74. Gill, on the other hand, continued his innings with ease. He formed a crucial 113-run partnership with Cheteshwar Pujara.

The opener quickly reached his half-century, but after that, the boundaries dried up. India had gone nearly 16 overs without scoring a boundary until Gill broke the jinx with back-to-back boundaries in his 80s. After that, he quickly shifted gears to complete his second Test century. He raised his arms in the air as he put his team in a decent situation.

While Pujara (42 runs in 121 balls) also played some resistant shots his innings was brought to an end by Todd Murphy at the brink of the Tea Break. The centurion was then joined in the middle by Virat Kohli, who survived a few early half chances. However, once he settled in, he looked solid in the middle.

Meanwhile, Gill scored 128 runs in 235 balls, including 12 boundaries and a six. Nathan Lyon’s experience finally sent him back to the dressing room. Ravindra Jadeja then supported Virat well as he completed his half-century. The home team will resume on Day 4 with a score of 289/3, trailing by 191 runs. Virat (59 runs in 128 balls)  and Jadeja (16 runs in 54 balls) are currently in the middle.

Usman Khawaja shines in the first innings

Earlier in the game, Usman Khawaja and Cameron Green both scored centuries. While Khawaja hit 180 runs, the all-rounder (114 runs) hit his first Test century. The Baggy Greens batted for nearly two days and scored 480 runs in the first innings. India’s only saving grace with the ball was Ravichandran Ashwin’s six-wicket spell.
