Sunil Gavaskar rates the star Indian cricketer to be the most exciting prospect after Sachin Tendulkar

Umran Malik is one of the rising stars of Indian Cricket who took the Indian T20 League 2022 by storm with his sheer pace. The speedster finished as the fourth-highest wicket-taker of the tournament scalping 22 wickets at an average of 20.18. The 23-year-old recently made his ODI debut against New Zealand and impressed everyone with his lightning-fast speed. Impressed by his raw talent, Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar recently stated that after Sachin Tendulkar, Umran Malik is the one he has been most excited to see representing India.

Umran was initially not part of the squad for the Bangladesh series, however, the speedster replaced Mohammed Shami, who got ruled out due to a shoulder injury. Before the second ODI between Bangladesh and India, the former cricketer showered the ultimate praise on the cricketer.

“One player I am most excited to see playing for India after Sachin Tendulkar is Umran Malik,” said Gavaskar on Sony Liv.

The Jammu & Kashmir-born seamer replaced Kuldeep Sen in the playing XI in the second ODI after Sen was ruled out of the game due to a stiff back. Umran picked up two wickets in the match and finished with the figures of 2/58 in 10 overs. He has picked up 5 wickets in 4 matches in ODIs so far at an average of 31 and an economy of 6.20.

Umran made his international debut against Ireland in a T20I in June this year. He has two wickets in three matches so far in the shortest format of international cricket.

Bangladesh won the second ODI by 5 runs and clinched the series 2-0

Coming back to Bangladesh vs India second ODI, despite losing 6 wickets for just 69 runs, Bangladesh ended up scoring 271 for the loss of 7 wickets in their allotted 50 overs. Mehidy Hassan shone with the bat in the second ODI as well and scored a brilliant hundred off just 83 balls.

In reply to Bangladesh’s total, India also lost wickets in quick succession and were 65/4. Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel brought them back into the game with a 107-run stand for the fifth wicket. Captain Rohit Sharma came out to bat at no nine despite suffering from a thumb injury and almost took the team over the finishing line as Bangladesh won by five runs.
