Sunil Gavaskar criticized for insensitive comments towards Shane Warne

The news of Shane Warne’s death shocked the whole world. The entire cricketing fraternity mourned over the same. Thus, even Sunil Gavaskar recently spoke about the legendary spinner.

While speaking on a show on India Today, the legend from India spoke about Warne’s legacy. However, what caught everyone’s attention was is his allegedly insensitive comments. According to Gavaskar, Warne wasn’t the best spinner, and Muttiah Muralitharan was better than him.

He said the same during the show. He pointed out Warne’s record in India, and stated that they were “pretty ordinary”. Gavaskar also said that he couldn’t call Warne the greatest.

“For me, the Indian spinners and Muttiah Muralitharan were certainly better than Warne. Because look at Warne’s record against India. It was pretty ordinary against India. Because he didn’t have much success against Indian players, who are very good players of spin bowling, I don’t think I would call him the greatest. I think, Muttiah Muralitharan with the success that he had against India would rank over him in my book,” said Sunil Gavaskar.

This didn’t sit well with several fans, as they slammed him for saying the same. Many users felt that he shouldn’t have made comparisons, and demeaned Warne as he just passed away. Some users even termed him “inhuman” for his comments on Warne. However, in the meanwhile, the 72-year-old drew light on the legendary leggie’s lifestyle.

“He was always looking to live life fully, king size as they call it and he did that and maybe because he lived life in such a manner is perhaps the reason why his heart couldn’t take it and he passed away so soon,” he said.
