‘Stop discrimination based on caste’- Fans accuse the Indian Cricket Board of Casteism after Suryakumar Yadav’s omission from Bangladesh ODIs

Fans accuse the Indian Cricket Board of Casteism after Suryakumar Yadav’s omission from Bangladesh ODIs

Suryakumar Yadav, India’s most trusted middle-order batter, was eventually excluded from the squad for the ODI series against Bangladesh in December. Eventually, fans started slamming the Indian cricket board on social media and claimed that the board was behaving in a casteist way.

While they went on to thrash a particular community, many, on the other hand, backed the board and said that they might have rested the batter for the upcoming series. For the unversed, the Indian batter ended up as the second highest-run getter for team India in the recently concluded 20-20 World Cup 2022 as he gathered 239 runs at an average of around 59. As things stand, the talented batter will represent India in the ODI series against New Zealand set to get underway on November 25, Friday.

While the likes of Rajat Patidar, Shahbaz Ahmed and Rahul Tripathi were added to the squad, Suryakumar was dropped from the squad, without any obvious reasons, which fans found difficult to get the actual reason behind the same.

Rishabh Pant continues his run for India

To add more to the squad, Rishabh Pant, who had a poor outing with the bat in the recently concluded T20I series against the Black Caps, was eventually added to the ODI squad for the series against the Bangla Tigers

It remains to see if the southpaw would get a game under his belt, with Ishan Kishan continuing his stint in the One-Day setup as the backup keeper. However, the removal of Suryakumar remains the unsolved puzzle and it remains to be seen if the board would come up with a clarification on the same.

On the other hand, Sanju Samson, who was rested for the T20I series against the Kiwis, was yet again snubbed for the ODI series against Bangladesh. Shreyas Iyer, Deepak Chahar, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul returned back to the squad, to make it a complete squad, although the middle-order batter missed out.

Let us take a look at fans lashing out at the Indian cricket board for snubbing Suryakumar Yadav from the squad:
