‘Started getting a lot of marriage proposals’ – Harmanpreet Kaur on his whirlwind knock that blew Australia

Harmanpreet Kaur has become a household name in Indian cricket since her innings of 171 not out against Australia in the 2017 World Cup semi-final. The Women In Yellow were defending their title, won in 2013. Kaur’s innings shattered the Aussie hopes of qualifying for the final and made India progress to their first World Cup final since 2005.

The right-hander hit 20 fours and seven sixes in the 115-ball innings. This attracted a lot of people in India towards Women’s cricket and her name was etched in the history books. Meanwhile, in a conversation with comedian Kapil Sharma, she revealed that her parents started getting marriage proposals after the historic innings.

However, the India T20I skipper also said that her parents haven’t forced her into marriage and have been supportive of her career. “Actually my parents do receive calls but I’m lucky enough that they haven’t forced me to get married. Instead, they have always supported me with cricket and motivated me to play for as long as I wish,” the 33-year-old said on the Kapil Sharma Show.

Talking about the Punjab-born player’s career, she made her ODI and T20I debuts in March and June 2009 respectively. Five years later, she made her Test debut. The all-rounder has played three Tests, 118 ODIs, and 121 T20Is. In the longest format, she could only muster 38 runs, averaging 7.60. On the other hand, her record in the limited-overs format has been impressive. She has amassed 2982 runs in the 50-over format, averaging 35.50 including four hundred and 15 fifties at a strike rate of 71.39.

Talking about her numbers in the shortest format, she has got 2319 runs, averaging 26.35 including one hundred and six fifties. Her maiden T20I hundred came in the 20-20 World Cup 2018 in the West Indies. Currently, she is leading the T20I team and is in contention for the ODI leadership with the retirement of Mithali Raj. However, Smriti Mandhana is also in contention for the ODI team leadership.
