Star Pakistan all-rounder believes Babar Azam should step down as captain after ODI World Cup 2023
Pakistan Cricket Team has had a decent outing in the ODI World Cup 2023. Babar Azam’s side is already out of contention for the knockouts. The skipper has been scrutinised by former players and experts and some suggest that he might drop down from the captaincy after the tournament. Babar has been discussing his future with former Pakistan cricketer and former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ramiz Raja and those who are close to him.
Imad Wasim the spinning all-rounder, also believes that Babar should step down from the leadership of the Pakistan Cricket Team. His decision to stay as captain would be based on opinion from the other people and some of his close advisers have recommended him to step down from captaincy in all three formats.
Pakistan is currently playing against defending champions England in their last game of the group stage. He was asked before the game in the conference about his captaincy. His performance with the bat has been decent, he has scored three fifties in the World Cup so far.
It is not just about him but for other leaders as well. The results have to be considered: Imad Wasim
Babar said, “About the captaincy–as I said, once we go back to Pakistan or after this match, we will see what happens. But right now, I am not focusing on this; my focus is on the next match. I have been captaining my team for the last three years, and I have never felt this way. It’s just because I have not performed the way I should have in the World Cup, that’s why people are saying that I am under pressure. I am under no pressure. I have been doing this for the last 2.5 or 3 years. I was the one who was performing, and I was the one who was the captain. I was applying the same thing.”
Imad Wasim said, “Babar Azam should step down gracefully from captaincy and set an example. It is not just about him but for other leaders as well. The results have to be considered.”
