Sri Lanka to host Asia Cup 2022 from August 27


The Asian Cricket Council has announced the dates of the Asia Cup 2022. This will be the 15th edition of the tournament. In the previous 14 editions, India has won the trophy seven times, being the most successful team in the tournament. Sri Lanka is the second most successful team of the tournament with 5 titles to their name, while Pakistan won the trophy two times.

The tournament will be played in the T20 format, just like the 2016 edition. “The Asia Cup 2022 will be held in Sri Lanka between August 27 and September 11 later this year. The tournament will be played in the T20 format. The Qualifiers for the same will be played 20 August 2022 onwards,” read a Tweet from Asian Cricket Council.

The 15th edition of the Asia Cup will see six teams competing for the trophy. The teams will be – India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and the winner of the Qualifiers. The Qualifiers will be played between four teams, namely- UAE, Kuwait, Singapore, and Hong Kong. UAE and Kuwait progressed to the Qualifiers from the 2020 ACC Western Region T20, while Singapore and Hong Kong progressed from the 2020 ACC Eastern Region T20.

Earlier, Pakistan was set to host the 15th edition of the tournament. However, the authorities decided that Sri Lanka will host the tournament, while Pakistan will get the honors in next edition. The tournament will once again give cricket fanatics an opportunity to witness an India, Pakistan game.
