Sri Lanka player hospitalized during Test match vs Bangladesh
Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are playing the second Test match in Mirpur
Sri Lanka’s Kusal Mendis has been hospitalized after he experienced chest pain during the ongoing second Test against Bangladesh. The batter complained of chest pain during the 23rd over of Bangladesh’s innings. He lay down before being treated by the medical staff and left the field holding his chest.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) doctor Manzur Hossain Chowdhury has said that the right-hander was taken to a hospital for “proper diagnosis and better management” of his condition. Chowdhury added that the Sri Lankan was suffering from dehydration ahead of the ongoing game which could be the reason for his latest health condition. The 27-year-old is suspected of having gastritis which could have led to his latest condition.
It is unclear how long he will be in the hospital, and whether he will be able to return to the field for the game or not. It is to be noted that the weather conditions during the series have been torrid for the players from both teams. During the first game of the series, Bangladesh’s opening batter Tamim Iqbal was retired hurt after having severe cramps on Day Three of the match.
Not just this, the on-field umpire Richard Kettleborough had to leave the field on the next day as well. This was because of the scorching heat. The players are often seen taking drinks under giant umbrellas. Talking about the ongoing game, the hosts won the toss, and elected to bat first. However, their decision has seemingly backfired. They had lost five wickets for just 25 runs. The likes of Mahmudul Hasan Joy (0), Tamim Iqbal (0), Najmul Hussain Shanto (8), skipper Monimul Haque (9), and Shakib Al Hasan (0) failed to make any impact.
After the fall of the wickets, the likes of Mushfiqur Rahim (62*) and wicketkeeper batter Liton Das (71*) have stitched a partnership of 128 runs and counting. The team will be expecting both players to get to a big score. For the visitors, Kasun Rajitha took three wickets, while Asitha Fernando took two.
