Sourav Ganguly became the president of BCCI in late 2019
BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has reportedly stepped down from the post of BCCI president. Ganguly’s tenure is supposed to end in September this year. In a cryptic tweet posted by him, he said that this year marks 30 years of journey in international cricket. For the unversed, the former India captain made his international debut in an ODI against the West Indies in Brisbane in 1992. However, he didn’t play at the level for the next four years.
Coming back to the tweet, the 49-year-old said that the game has given a lot to him and has provided a lot of support from the fans. He thanked every single person who has been part of his 30-year-old journey. The left-hander added that he is planning to start something new. He hopes that he gets the support from the fans like he has been getting over the years.
“2022 marks the 30th year since the start of my journey with cricket in 1992. Since then, cricket has given me a lot. Most importantly, it has given me the support of all of you. I want to thank every single person who has been a part of the journey, supported me, and helped me reach where I am today. Today, I am planning to start something that I feel will probably help a lot of people. I hope you continue your support as I enter this chapter of my life,” he wrote on Twitter.

The 113-Test veteran was appointed as the BCCI president in late 2019 after the trio of Committee of Administrators had completed their tenures. The trio was appointed by the Supreme Court of India in 2016. Ganguly was supposed to step down for a temporary period in September 2020 as per the guidelines set by the court. However, he challenged the decision and retain his position in the board. Recently, it was reported that he would be joined the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP).Although, he denied the reports and said that he hasn’t planned anything like this.
