Indian Cricket Board president Sourav Ganguly congratulated the Women’s Cricket team for winning silver. However, he also expressed his disappointment as the team lost the Commonwealth Games 2022 final against Australia. The team settled with the silver in their maiden appearance in the multi-sport event. The Aussies, on the other hand, bagged another title in the calendar year as they won the ODI World Cup a few months back.

The Women in Blue had the game in their grasp at one stage. However, the team couldn’t hold their nerves and lost the game by nine runs. The final reminded the fans of the 2017 ODI World Cup final. In that game too, the Asian team might have won easily if not for choking in the dying moments of the game. Meanwhile, after the game, the Indian Cricket Board president took to Twitter and had mixed emotions.

The former India Men’s skipper congratulated the team for winning silver but pointed out that the game was in the grasp of the team. “Congratulations to the Indian women’s team for winning silver ..But they will go home disappointed as it was their game tonite ..@BCCIWomen,” he tweeted.

Talking about the game, the Kangaroos won the toss and elected to bat first. Thanks to Meg Lanning (61) and Meg Lanning (36), and Ashleigh Gardner (25), the team was looking to post in excess of 180 runs. However, the Indian bowlers made a strong comeback and restricted their opponents to 161/8. In reply, Harmanpreet Kaur’s players had a poor start as they lost their openers, Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma early.

Skipper Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues stitched a partnership of 96 runs and it looked like they would create history by winning Gold medal. However, after the duo got out to Gardner, the team kept losing wickets. However, in the midst of all this, Deepti Sharma kept the hopes with important boundaries. However, after she got out, the team suffered a batting collapse, and were dismissed for 152.
