‘Smashing Victory’ – Twitter jubilant after P.V Sindhu wins her maiden Singapore Open Title
P.V Sindhu will be high on confidence as she will be leading India at the Commonwealth Games
Badminton star P.V Sindhu won her third title this year. She defeated China’s Wang Zhi 21-9, 11-21, 21-15 in a match-winning performance at the Singapore Open final on Sunday. She became the second Indian women’s shuttler and the third Indian overall to win the coveted title. Before Sindhu, Saina Nehwal and B Sai Praneeth have lifted the Singapore Open titles in 2010 and 2017 respectively.
The 27-year-old badminton star will be high on confidence after the title win as she will be leading India at the Commonwealth Games, starting 28th July in Birmingham.
The two-time Olympic medallist was right on the money from the beginning of the match as she collected 13 straight points to win the first game in 12 minutes. Wang made a strong comeback in the second game as she defeated Sindhu in 18 minutes. In the decider, Sindhu held her nerve to seal her maiden title in Kallang.
“Getting this title means a lot, this would give me a lot of confidence, this will take me to another level. The whole week, a couple of matches were in three games, some were in two. But each match was important from the start. Now it’s time to relax a bit and focus on the Commonwealth Games. This is just the start, but it’ll give me a lot of confidence,” Sindhu said after the win.
Ever since Sindhu got into the semi-finals, the entire nation began praying for her to win the title. She got tremendous support in the stadium during all her games with the crowd chanting her name in all games. Sindhu is the only woman athlete from the country to win two Olympic medals. She won a silver medal at the Rio Olympics 2016 and won a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2021. The ace shuttler will be looking to continue her good run by winning another medal in the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Birmingham set to begin on 28th July.
Here’s how Twitter celebrated their star shuttler as she came out triumphant at the event.
