Cricketer-turned-commentator Simon Doull has a change of opinions on Riyan Parag. On April 26, Parag scored a match-winning 56 off 31 balls as his team, was struggling against Bangalore. This proved to be a vital innings as Rajasthan beat Bangalore by 29 runs. During the game, batters from both teams struggled to score big runs. Earlier this month, Doull had created a controversy while questioning his selection in the team.

During a game, the former New Zealand pacer had said that Parag is a social media star which doesn’t count in a cricket match on while commentating. His comments were not taken well by a Twitter user. The user pointed out that questioning a player’s credentials is fine but a commentator’s opinion on Parag being a social media was unnecessary.

“Simon Doull on-air questioning RR’s decision to play Riyan Parag who has modest record, I think that is a fair opinion. But then he concludes by saying that I know Riyan is a social media star but that doesn’t count in a match. Why would any commentator say that on national TV?” wrote the Twitter user, questioning Simon Doull’s remarks.

Talking about the numbers of the Assam player, he has played 38 games since making his debut in 2019. The right-hander has scored 443 runs averaging 17.72 and striking at 125.50. In a career spanning three years, he has hit two fifties with the first one coming in 2019. Meanwhile, after his match-winning innings against Bangalore, Doull took to Twitter to praise the 2018 U19 World Cup winner for his efforts.

The 52-year-old’s comments came after a user tagged him with a Tweet which says ‘Hope you are watching the game. RIYAN PARAG 56 OF 31’ In reply, the Pukekohe-born said ‘Yes he played really well today. Summed up the situation and was fantastic at the death’.

With this win, Rajasthan is currently placed at the top of the table with six wins in eight games. They are just two wins away from qualifying for the playoffs with six league games remaining.
