‘Sidha bata ki India Pakistan jayegi ya nahi’ – Fans divided as India set to play their Asia Cup games in UAE

The Indian Cricket Board and the Pakitsan Cricket Board have been at a disagreement over sending the Indian team to Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023.

There have been a lot of speculations about Asia Cup 2023, where the Indian Cricket Board has refused to travel to Pakistan, citing its Indian government’s decision. Per the Pakistan Cricket Board sources, Pakistan will likely remain the hosts for the Asia Cup 2023. India will probably play their matches in UAE with a few other games, including the final, if necessary.

This Asia Cup is considered a stepping stone for the 50-over World Cup, as the tournament will take place in India in September 2023. Pakistan had not hosted the Asia Cup since 2008, when Sri Lanka emerged as the winners. The PCB has successfully conducted tours of England & New Zealand, where the teams were pretty happy with the hospitality & security.

Pakistan will remain the main hosts of the Asia Cup, with Sharjah, Abu Dhabi & Dubai being the three venues in UAE

“What can I say about what happened in the Asian Cricket Council board meeting. There was no resolution.” PCB Chairman Najam Sethi replied when asked whether Pakistan will be the hosts of the Asia Cup 2023.

“Sethi made it clear at the ACC meeting that PCB wants to host the event and some of the matches at home.” another source close to the PCB made a staggering statement regarding the tournament.

Pakistani fans would be delighted to see the continental tournament held in their backyard as the nation is currently going through a crisis. It won’t be wrong to say that the players would be exhausted with the travel factor introduced due to multiple venues. The final of the continental tournament will be played in UAE if India manages to book a place in the summit clash.

It would be interesting to see whether Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) & Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) are ready for the multiple venues format where pitches would differ. Sharjah, Abu Dhabi & Dubai have reportedly been finalized as the three venues in the UAE. The country hosted the Asia Cup 2018 & the recently concluded 2022 Asia Cup. It looks unlikely that the Indian Cricket Board will change their stance for the upcoming tournament.
