Team India’s wicket-keeper batter KL Rahul stated that he is not worried about his competition. He went on to also state that his competition is himself. While talking to the India vs South Africa series broadcasters, Star Sports, he made this powerful statement. The Lucknow Super Giants skipper said, “My competition is with myself.”

KL Rahul expressed his willingness to bat within the middle order recently. Rahul responded when questioned if he was excited to be back in the T20I lineup. He was stating that he was only interested in playing cricket and making his side win.

Like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, KL Rahul has not played Twenty20 International cricket after the T20 World Cup 2022 semi-final loss to England. With the announcement of the team for the forthcoming three-match Twenty20 International series against Afghanistan expected this weekend, all eyes will be on whether the more experienced players will feature in India’s final T20I international assignment before the T20 World Cup in June.

“I have missed a lot of matches” : KL Rahul

Many people are speculating that Rohit Sharma would take the captaincy once more. This is because Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya are not available. Given their previous experiences with young players, it is unclear whether the selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, would give another shot to KL Rahul and Virat Kohli.

In his 54 out of 72 T20I appearances, Rahul has started as the opener most of the time. Nonetheless, the battle for the opening position is becoming increasingly fierce. Even in the role of wicketkeeper-batter, Rahul has competition from players like Ishan Kishan and Jitesh Sharma.

While speaking to Star Sports after India’s historic win against South Africa, he said, “When they ask me to do any job, I just tell them ‘keep me in the XI, wherever you want to play me, I will’. I want to play more and more matches. Unfortunately, because of injuries, I have missed a lot of matches, not just this injury, I have been injured quite a lot.”
