‘Show some respect’ – Marnus Labuschagne’s reply to Sachin Tendulkar lands him into hot waters on Twitter
Sachin Tendulkar has been an admirer of the Australian batter Marnus Labuschagne.
India cricket fans are some of the most emotionally invested fans out there. While most of the time, it is the harbinger of joy in the game, sometimes, it’s not so, as Marnus Labuschgne found out on Twitter.
The incident in question came in after the Australian batter responded to a tweet made by legendary Indian batter Sachin Tendulkar. The World Cup winner while wishing good luck to the Indian Women’s team taking part in the Women’s T20I tournament at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, wrote,
“Wonderful to see cricket back in the commonwealth Games. Hope this takes our beautiful game to newer audiences. Best wishes to the Women’s team for their Commonwealth Games 2022 campaign.”
Reacting to Tendulkar’s tweet, Labuschagne replied, “Agreed Sachin. Aus vs India is going to be an amazing opener too.” This tweet, however, didn’t go down too well with the Indian cricket fans. Fans felt that addressing Tendulkar as just “Sachin” was disrespectful to the former Indian batter.
Agreed Sachin. Aus v India is going to be an amazing opener too ??

Twitter was soon awash with Indian cricket fans trolling the Australian batter for his use of words and lack of respect for arguably the greatest Indian cricketer of all time.
Sachin? No Indian players talk to him like this. Show some respects

Tendulkar has lavished massive praise on the 28-year-old in the past. In 2020, the former Indian cricketer when asked which modern-day batter reminded him of himself, had said, “His footwork is so precise. So he would be the one I would say” about Labuschagne.
“I happened to be watching the second Test match (Ashes) at Lord’s between England and Australia. When Steve Smith got injured, I saw Labuschagne’s second innings. I was sitting with my father-in-law. I saw Marnus get hit off the second ball from Jofra Archer and, post that, the 15 minutes he batted, I said, ‘This player looks special’. There is something about him,” concluded Tendulkar about Labuschagne.
Labuschagne showed gratefulness for Tendulkar’s comments about him and said, “It was pretty amazing, it’s one that definitely when I saw it, I was quick to read it and it really hit me. Amazing words from someone of that calibre. I was very grateful for his words and just stoked really,”
