Sheldon Jackson on Wednesday took to Twitter to express his disappointment on not being picked for the India A squad. The keeper-batter has been a regular mainstay in the Saurashtra team for a number of years. He had a great time with the bat during the last three seasons of the Ranji Trophy where he scored almost 2,000 runs.

Jackson took a jibe at the selectors who had ‘supposedly’ omitted him from the squad due to his age. The 35-year-old vent out his frustration on late Wednesday and wrote “I have a right to believe and dream that if I have performed for 3 continuous season, I may get picked on the basis of my performances not age, tired of hearing this that I’m a good player and performer but I’m old, I’m 35 not 75.”

Jackson played for the Kolkata Franchise in the Indian T20 League this year and had a torrid time with the bat. He managed only 23 runs in five matches with a strike rate of 88. However, he was lauded for his glove-work behind the stumps.

Jackson has great numbers on his side in both first-class and List A cricket. He has scored 5947 runs at an average of 50 with 19 hundreds to his name in first-class cricket. In List A, he has scored 2346 runs at an average of 37 and a strike rate of 83 with eight hundreds to his name.

Sheldon Jackson took the criticism from fans positively

A fan replied to his tweet reminding him about his dismal show in this year’s Indian T20 League. The Saurashtra cricketer took the criticism positively and replied, “Hey, I understand your upset with me and I was angry with myself too coz I haven’t got anything in cricket easily or early ,but in cricket it happens no matter how much you try at times things don’t go your way, I’m sorry I couldn’t show you how good I actually am, someday.”

Jackson is yet to feature in competitive cricket since the Indian T20 League but is expected to play an integral role at Saurashtra when the domestic season begins in September.
