ODI World Cup 2023
‘Seedha kheloge aur phir jeetoge’ – Fans react to reports of Steve Smith, Pat Cumins playing directly at ODI World Cup 2023
Australia announced their squad for the ODI World Cup 2023 earlier today
Australia, a five-time World Champion, has selected their final 15-man team for the ODI World Cup 2023. Nathan Ellis, Aaron Hardie, as well as Tanveer Sangha were not selected, but Sean Abbott snuck into the team.
As mandated due to the apex cricket body, Australia has reduced its preliminary squad from 18 to 15. The Test star Marnus Labuschagne was additionally left off of the World Cup roster, in addition to Ellis, Hardie, and Sangha.
George Bailey, the chief selector, voiced confidence in the readiness of players like Steve Smith, Pat Cummins, Glenn Maxwell, and Mitchell Starc to compete. He believes the Australians have adequate time to continue preparing for the championship game.
He said, “Pat Cummins, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc and Glenn Maxwell are on track in their return to play programs. All are well placed to come back online in the coming weeks and potentially for selection in the upcoming series against India. There are eight one-day matches still to play in South Africa and India before the final squad is due to be declared. They are followed by two World Cup practice games, which offers plenty of opportunity to continue the build for the tournament.”
Australia’s Big Four set to play straight at the ODI World Cup 2023
Before facing India on October 8 in Chennai, the Men in Yellow have scheduled friendly wam-up games versus Pakistan and the Netherlands.
Even though they might not be ready to compete when the ODI World Cup 2023 in India begins next month, Australia’s captain Pat Cummins, Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell, and Mitchell Starc were all chosen to the team on Wednesday.
All four of the players are suffering with some problem or the other, as Maxwell has an ankle problem, Cummins is dealing with a fractured hand, Smith has a torn tendon in his wrist, and Starc has a groyne injury. The ODI series in South Africa, is all set to begin on Thursday, and is without all four players.
