In the WPL 2024 auction, Sanjana secured a contract with the Mumbai Indians for Rs 15 lakh
Sanjeevan Sanjana has recently made headlines with her spectacular debut in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) playing for the Mumbai Indians. In a last-ball thriller, Sanjana led her team to glory with a stunning six-off last ball in the inaugural game. Her amazing performance on her debut has drawn huge attention from both fans and experts.
Born on January 4, 1995, in Bayanad Mananthavadi, Kerala, Sanjana’s journey to success has been marked by resilience and determination. Hailing from an ordinary background, Sanjana faced numerous challenges in her early years. Her father, a rickshaw puller, struggled to make ends meet.
The cricketer, belonging to the Kurichiya tribe, practised cricket using plastic balls and coconut bats until the age of 18. The devastating Kerala floods nearly wiped out her entire house, adding another layer of adversity to her already challenging life. However, Sanjana refused to succumb to the hardships and continued pursuing her passion for cricket.
Before her breakthrough, Sanjana’s struggles were epitomized by practising with rudimentary equipment. Notably, her initiation into the game began with humble tools like plastic balls and coconut bats. Despite the odds stacked against her, she persevered, showcasing an unwavering determination to overcome obstacles.
Sanjeevan Sanjana rocked the domestic arena with stellar performances!
The turning point in Sanjana’s life came in 2019 when she secured the T20 Super League title for the Kerala Under-23 team. Her outstanding performance in the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy 2023, where she scored 134 runs in 7 innings and took 6 wickets, further solidified her position in the cricketing arena.
In the WPL 2024 auction, Sanjana, with a base price of Rs 10 lakh, secured a contract with the Mumbai Indians for Rs 15 lakh. This opportunity marked a significant milestone in her career, especially considering her unsold status in the previous season’s auction. Her debut for the Mumbai Indians was nothing short of remarkable. In a nail-biting match against the Delhi Capitals, Sanjana’s crucial six on the last ball secured a thrilling victory for her team.
Sanjana’s journey from the challenges of her humble background to the grand stage of the Women’s Premier League serves as an inspiration. Her story symbolises the indomitable spirit of those who rise above adversity to achieve greatness.
