As the days are nearing the start of the big 2023 ODI World Cup, discussions are going on regarding the combinations of the teams. The Indian team, in particular, always has fans who are vocal about the selections of the players. Much like the fans, there are a lot of former cricketers and experts who have their own choice of players to prefer based on a lot of factors.

Ravi Shastri, who was the winner of the 1983 ODI World Cup and the Player of the Tournament in the 1985 World Championship of cricket, gave his opinions on the outlook of the squad. The former Indian cricketer was also the Indian head coach for a couple of terms. Under his tenure, India attained different levels in cricket, especially in the longest format of the game.

‘There should be 3 left handers in the Top 7’ – Shastri

The famous commentator is known for his straightforwardness. According to Shastri, Kishan must be on the Indian side for the 2023 ODI World Cup. In a recent interview, Shastri said, “If you have persisted with Ishan Kishan for the last 8 months and he is going to keep wickets, he comes in. There should be 3 left-handers including Ravindra Jadeja in the Top 7 for the World Cup” and backed Kishan.

Kishan has been one of the front runners for a spot in the 2023 ODI World Cup squad. As a batter, Kishan gives a lot of options. As an opener, Kishan can go bonkers at the top, which he exhibited against the West Indies in the recently concluded series. As a middle-order batter, Kishan can be useful and give balance to the side with his added wicketkeeping skills.

The youngster made his international debut under the coaching stint of Ravi Shastri. The former Indian All-rounder knows Ishan Kishan well. As a result, Shastri put forward the name of Kishan as one of the candidates to be in the Indian ODI World Cup squad, especially because he is a left-handed batter.
