India reclaimed the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as they won the four-match series against Australia 2-1. The team led by Rohit Sharma was at the top for the better part of the series as they retained the series after the second match itself.

India mostly had most of the players chip in the victories, but only a handful of players could not make an impact. India’s star opener KL Rahul is one of those players. The opening batter played in the first two games, but could only manage 38 runs in the first innings.

As a result of his consistent poor performances, Rahul was dropped from the Vice Captaincy position and also lost a place in the Playing XI. He had to make way for the in-form Shubman Gill, who scored a century in the final game played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

In the meantime, a video from after the series has been doing rounds on the internet. The Indian skipper was seen walking towards Rahul with the series trophy. While the wicketkeeper batter laid his hands on the trophy to take it from the skipper, Rohit overlooked him and passed it to Ravichandran Ashwin. The all-rounder was seen laughing as he walked away with the trophy.

The two Test cricketing titans will now meet in the Test Championship final at the Oval on June 7th. India qualified for the Final thanks to New Zealand‘s victory over Sri Lanka in Christchurch. Their place was in jeopardy as Sri Lanka also stood a chance to win the match.

India and Australia will also play a three-match ODI series before the Test Championship final, starting on the 17th of March. The iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai will hold the first match, followed by the next two matches in Vishakhapatnam and Chennai on the 19th and 22nd of March, respectively.
