With KL Rahul also out with injury, there was no captain in the team to lead them. Jasprit Bumrah came out as a surprise captain for the India- England fifth Test and has so far done incredibly well.

Reports have now emerged that Rohit Sharma, who was under quarantine in the team hotel has tested negative and is finally COVID free. Sources say that he is also out of isolation today. India’s team for the upcoming white-ball series against England has already been announced and the 35-year-old has been named as the captain for the T20I side as well as the ODI side.

The news has come as a surprise to many as Rohit Sharma’s inclusion would make the team stronger and India would have had a better chance of winning. The team is also looking to finalise the team for the upcoming T20I world cup later this year and this series is a chance for Rohit to sharpen his captaincy and batting.

India is going to play three T20I and three ODIs against the English side from 7th July in Southampton. England Cricket Board has also announced their white-ball team for the series against India. After the retirement of Eoin Morgan, the captaincy role has been given to Jos Butler. The ODI series will also see the return of Ben Stokes and Joe Root who will sit out the T20I series.

Meanwhile, India and England are currently going head-to-head in the 5th rescheduled Test match from India’s tour of England in 2021.
