The FIFA World Cup 2022 scheduled to be held in Qatar is just weeks away. Starting from 20th November, 32 teams will fight for World football supremacy in the Middle East country. While there are innumerable footballing stars taking part in the World Cup, there are some whose national teams could not qualify for the mega event.

Mohammad Salah and Riyad Mahrez are two such footballers who won’t be featuring in the FIFA World Cup 2022 since their respective national teams did not qualify for the World Cup. Mohammad Salah’s Egypt lost to African team Senegal in the third round and failed to qualify. Algeria on the other hand lost to Cameroon in the same stage resulting in heartbreak for Mahrez.

Both of these footballers play in two of the biggest football clubs in the world. Salah, for example, plays for English club Liverpool who recently won the English Premier League (2019-20) and the Champions League (2018-19) whereas Mahrez plays for Manchester City who have won five of the last six Premier League trophies. Both of these players however have missed out on the FIFA World Cup.

However, the two could still go to the World Cup, not as players but as analysts for beIN Sports. Many reports have emerged that say that the two players have agreed to commentate and analyse FIFA World Cup 2022 matches for the broadcasting company.

This could be the last World Cup for Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi

The FIFA World Cup 2022 kicks off on 20th November when Qatar take on Ecuador at Al Bayt Stadium in Qatar. This World Cup is special for multiple reasons; for starters, it is the first time that the World Cup is taking place in the winter season.

This World Cup could also be the last for two of the greatest footballers of all time, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. The Argentinian has already announced that he won’t be taking part in a World Cup after this. At 37 years old, it is also very difficult for Ronaldo to play another World Cup after this.
