‘Remember last season?’ – Chennai and Punjab fans engage in a Twitter war

Published on

On April 3, Chennai and Punjab locked horns at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. The defending champions won the toss and elected to field first. While batting first, the Men in Red and Gold amassed 180/8, thanks to Shikhar Dhawan (33), Liam Livingstone (60), and Jitesh Sharma (26). In reply, the Men In Yellow could only muster 126 all-out with only Shivam Dube (57) scoring substantial runs for the side.

Due to this, the defending champions have now lost three back-to-back games, which is a record. For the first time in the history of the Indian T20 League, the four-time champions have gone winless after three games. On the other hand, the 2014 finalists have made a great comeback after losing massively to Kolkata in their previous match. With this win, they have earned four points in three games.

After the game, the Mohali-based franchise took to Twitter and posted an audio clip in which the final whistle can be heard. The final whistle is been blown by match referees in sports such as Kabaddi, Football, etc.

This post started a Twitter war among the fans of both teams. One user reminded the franchise of their tweet about Ravi Bishnoi taking the wicket of MS Dhoni. In that Tweet, the franchise had called Dhoni’s wicket, an art while Bishnoi an artist. The user reminded them of the tweet and added that the former Chennai went on to lead the team to the title.

Another Chennai fan reminded of how the former India skipper averages 55.18 and strikes at 152.19 against Punjab. In reply, the Punjab fans insisted that the Punjab team used to be weaker but now is much stronger.
