Chennai Super Kings bounced back from their loss to Rajasthan Royals with a hard-fought victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Close to 450 runs were scored in the Indian Premier League 2023 clash between the two teams.

Devon Conway’s (83 off 45) and Shivam Dube’s (52 off 27) attacking fifties propelled CSK to 226/6. The CSK bowlers then held their nerve, surviving whirlwind half-centuries from Glenn Maxwell (76 off 36) and Faf du Plessis (62 off 33), to win the game by 8 runs in yet another IPL 2023 thriller.

On Monday, RCB and CSK combined for 444 runs in Bangalore. This is the sixth-highest combined score in an IPL game and the highest at Chinnaswamy Stadium. Before this match, the maximum number of runs scored in an IPL match at this venue was 425 on April 10 this season between RCB and Lucknow Super Giants.

CSK’s total in this match was the third-highest in IPL history. Their highest league total is 246 for 5 against Rajasthan Royals in 2010, followed by 240 for 5 against Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in 2008. CSK’s 226 was their highest IPL score against RCB. RCB also responded with their highest score against CSK in the IPL, 218.

The CSK batsmen blasted 17 sixes in their innings, which tied for their most in an IPL encounter. They have previously struck 17 sixes on three occasions, notably twice against RCB in 2018 and 2022. Yesterday’s game featured 33 maximums, the joint most in an IPL game. Twice earlier, 33 sixes were struck in an IPL contest, RCB vs CSK in Bengaluru in 2018, and RR vs CSK in Sharjah in 2020.

In the meantime, the four-time champions, after their win over RCB, moved up to third place in the points table. They have won three of the five games that they have played so far. On the other hand, the 2016 finalists are in seventh place with two wins in five games.
