‘Raja he agle raja ki pehchan rakhta hai’ – Fans react as Virat Kohli heaps praise on Shubman Gill with special message on Instagram

In the game between Gujarat Titans vs Sunrisers Hyderabad, Shubman Gill hit his maiden IPL hundred. His team, GT was asked to bat first after they lost the coin toss. After losing Wriddhiman Saha early, Gill dominated the SRH bowling right from the onset. However, after reaching 95 by the end of the 16th over, he had to wait till the 19th over to reach his century.

During this phase, he lost the strike and watched other batters lose their wickets. In the end, the right-hander managed to reach the three-figure mark with a single. After reaching the landmark, his India teammate, Virat Kohli congratulated him on Instagram. The IG story of the former India skipper has been going viral on social media.

Meanwhile, after hitting the century and becoming the Player of The Match, the Fazilka-born spoke to the broadcaster. The 2018 U19 World Cup winner said that Kohli has been his idol since his teenage days.

“When I was 12-13 years old I followed Virat Kohli bhai the most, he has been my idol since I started understanding cricket. I learned a lot from Virat bhai. His batting & passion & commitment motivates me,” Gill told Star Sports.

Shubman Gill was confident of getting his IPL hundred in the ongoing season

Meanwhile, the Punjab player missed out on his IPL hundred in the reverse fixture against Lucknow Super Giants at home. Gill scored 94 not out but had said that their are five to six games left and he was confident of reaching the landmark.

“It was in my mind but I missed out on the bouncer I hit for a single. No worries though, there are 5-6 games left and hopefully, I’ll get my hundred in one of them,” Shubman Gill said during the post-match presentation after the game against Lucknow Super Giants on May 7.

This year, Shubman has hit centuries across formats, whether it is Tests, ODIs, and T20Is. This is a rare achievement for a player.
