ODI World Cup 2023

The Champions 2025 Trophy will be awarded to the top seven teams after the conclusion of the ODI World Cup 2023 league stage, which is now taking place in India. Pakistan, the hosts, have already earned a spot in the eight-team competition.

The apex cricket council authorised the Champions Trophy 2025 qualification process in 2021, when the tournament returned to be among eight men’s international championships scheduled for the 2024–2031 season, according to ESPNcricinfo.  Some ODI World Cup 2023 players and spectators, however, were taken aback by the development as they were unaware of this need.

Additionally, because they did not make it to the ODI World Cup 2023, nations like Zimbabwe, West Indies, and Ireland will not even be eligible for the 2025 event in Pakistan. The competition was played in 2013 and 2017, with the top eight teams in the standings on a given day.

Since England are now ranked 10th within the World Cup points standings, they may be unable to attend the competition. So far in the ODI World Cup 2023, they have only won one of their six games.

Amidst their white-ball revolution, England, captained by Eoin Morgan, had a fantastic chance of capturing the 2017 Champions Trophy. Nevertheless, they were defeated by eventual winners Pakistan in the semifinals, ending their run. The Oval hosted the Champions Trophy 2017 final, which Pakistan won over India by 180 runs.

“There are still three matches left considering that in mind” : Shakib al Hasan

Bangladesh, who have dropped five of their last six World Cup games, may also be eliminated from the competition. Notably, all-rounder and captain of Bangladesh Shakib Al Hasan has often emphasised the Champions Trophy 2025 qualification situation.

Following the defeat against the Netherlands, the seasoned all-around player stated, “I mean, not the semi-final hope. It is not a semi-final possibility. At least, do a little better. Suppose, you have to be in the [top] ranking 8 if you want to play in the Champions Trophy. So, there are still three matches left considering that in mind.”
