Umran Malik has got his maiden national call-up for the upcoming five-match T20I series against South Africa next month. The pacer has been rewarded after picking 22 wickets in 14 games in the ongoing Indian T20 League for Hyderabad. He has also impressed everyone with his tearaway pace bowling, which is nothing short of absolute gold. Besides, the right-arm pacer has been clocking the 150 kmph mark at will.

Meanwhile, after his selection, his father said that he has been getting a lot of congratulatory messages. He added that there is nothing bigger than seeing his son in the national colours. He stated that his son has made him proud with his performances, and the family is thankful to the nation for rallying behind the speedster.

“People were just coming in hoards to congratulate me. I am now going home and would join the celebrations. Just saw the news on the internet. What could be a bigger achievement than to wear the national colours,” Rashid told was quoted as saying by Cricket Addictor.

“He has made all of us proud with his performances in the IPL and the way the whole country rallied behind him, we as a family can only be thankful. Pura desh ke support mila mere Umran ko,” he said.

The senior Malik further added that his son had a self-belief that he will do well. He also said that his son had faith in his skills and his success can be credited to the Almighty’s blessing and hard work.

“Umran had the self-belief that one day he will achieve success. He had faith in his skill and talent and worked hard for it. It is completely his success and also the Almighty’s blessing. He worked hard and God supported him. I don’t deserve credit for his hard work,” he further added. Thus, it will be interesting to see whether Malik gets the India cap during the series which will start on June 9.
