Premier League 2022: History, teams, rules, Winter Break, All you need to know
The Premier League 2022 season started on Friday, August 6th.
The new season of the Premier League has arrived with much fanfare. The first week of the biggest football league in the world showed a great glimpse of what is to come. With some great signings in the league and a FIFA World Cup in the middle, this season comes with a unique prospect.
Let’s look at all the details of the upcoming Premier League 2022/23 Season.
History:
The first season was held in 1992 with 22 teams. In 1995, it was reduced to 20 teams and has remained so today.
Basics:
The Premier League consists of 20 teams who play two games against each other in a season that lasts eight months. Every team plays a total of 38 games, 19 at their home ground and 19 away. Whoever is at the top of the table at the end of the last match is adjudged the winner of the English Premier League.
New Rules:
The biggest change in the rules for the upcoming season is that teams can make five changes now, up from three. These five changes can be made in three

Promotion & Relegation:
The last three teams on the league table, i.e. 18th, 19th and 20th teams are relegated to the lower division; the Championship after the end of the season. The three best teams from Championship are moved to the English Premier League in the next season.

New Players:
Every season there is a slew of new signings made by the English clubs and this season of the Premier League is no different.
Erling Haaland, probably the best upcoming talent in football was signed by Manchester City by German club Borussia Dortmund. At just 22, the striker has scored 130 goals for the club and 20 for his country. In the first game itself, Haaland scored 2 goals for City. City also signed Kalvin Philips from Leeds United.
Chelsea have signed, Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly and Marc Cucurella for the upcoming season.
Liverpool after selling Sadio Mane signed Darwin Nunez for £64m from Benefica. Tottenham got Richarlison meanwhile Arsenal paid for the services of Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko.
In a £60m deal, West Ham signed Nayef Aguerd from Rennes and Gianluca Scamacca from Sassuolo.
New Winter Break:
In what is going to be a first for English football, the Premier League would have to be stopped for six weeks as a result of the Qatar World Cup which is being held in November and December.
In accordance with the new winter break, Premier League football will be stopped between 13th November and 26th December 2022.
