Rachin Ravindra of New Zealand continued his incredible streak in international cricket on Monday, smashing his maiden double-century to aid the team led by Kane Williamson in amassing a big first innings total versus South Africa.

In the opening Test match of the series, Tim Southee and company batted first at Mount Maunganui’s Bay Oval and scored 477-7 after 141.3 overs at Tea. All-rounder Ravindra put New Zealand ahead at lunch on Day 2 of the match after carrying over his overnight tally of 118 on the first day.

At the Bay Oval, South Africa’s Ruan de Swardt took out former New Zealand captain Williamson. This also ended the long partnership between him and Ravindra, and secured his maiden Test wicket. Williamson led the Kiwis to 271-3 across 94.5 overs with a magnificent knock of 118 from 289 balls before Ravindra seized over and made history in New Zealand.

Ravindra achieved his first-ever double-century in the second session. At the end of his batting marathon, Ravindra achieved the highest score ever for a New Zealand batsman who reached his maiden century in the same Test match.

Prior to Ravindra’s batting masterpiece against South Africa, the old record, set in 1999 by Mathew Sinclair, was 214. Remarkably, Ravindra becomes the fourth batter from New Zealand to score a double century after reaching a maiden Test tonne.

Rachin Ravindra’s impressive form continues!

At the ODI World Cup 2023 in India, the 24-year-old emerged as the Black Caps’ most impressive player. In the tournament last year, the World Cup breakout star scored hundreds of runs against England, Australia, and Pakistan.

The Chennai Super Kings reached his double century in 340 balls in what was an amazing knock. Ravindra’s exciting performance versus Proteas featured 21 fours along with a six. New Zealand, motivated by Ravindra, defeated the visitors by scoring 511 in 114 overs.

Prior to the South Africa series, young player Ravindra battled for more than two years to guarantee his spot in the Test team. The all-rounder from New Zealand played just three games before the first game of the series and amassed 73 runs across six innings.
