The Ashes 2023
‘Pichhla bhi khilaana chahiye tha’ – Fans react as England announce Playing XI for 4th Ashes 2023 Test with surprise change
The veteran pacer James Anderson is back in the playing XI after missing the third test
For the fourth Ashes Test at Old Trafford starting on July 19th, James Anderson will take Ollie Robinson’s place in the starting XI. While Australia lead the series 2-1, England secured the third Test at Headingley to strengthen their chances of claiming the Ashes for the first time since 2015.
Anderson missed the previous Test because he was given rest, but he will play in his home stadium this time. At Headingley, Robinson’s back spasm caused him to bowl only 11 overs during the first innings but none whatsoever during the second. The Emirates Old Trafford is the home ground of James Anderson and would be hoping to make the opportunity count with a lot on the line.
Ashes fourth test set to start on Wednesday
The fourth Test is fast approaching, therefore it appears that England’s practice sessions may be impacted by the weather. On Monday morning, Old Trafford saw rain after thunder was reported overhead. Players gearing up for practice had to leave the pitch, and it’s likely that they will need to hold their sessions indoors.
Although Wednesday and Thursday are predicted to see an improvement in the weather, the weekend looks to have poor weather where rain might play spoilsport. That might sound bad news for the England team and its fans, who simply cannot afford to lose this Test match. To have a chance of winning the series, they must win the upcoming two matches. The Ashes would remain with Australia as they are the current holders
Harry Brook will continue to bat at No. 5, where he produced important innings of 75 runs which helped England clinch the third Test because Moeen Ali will continue to bat at No. 3 once more.
Ben Stokes spoke in the post-match press conference and said, “When I took the role on I asked for 10 other selfless cricketers. And that little moment of Mo going to Baz [McCullum] and saying, ‘I want the opportunity’ is everything that we’re about as a team.”
