Amid a tussle between India and Pakistan Cricket Board over participation in the upcoming Asia Cup and 50-over World Cup, former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar wishes to win the trophy in Mumbai this year. Rawalpindi Express in a recent interview said that he wants Babar Azam to win World Cup in India and live that dream which was shattered in 2011.

Akhtar during a Pakistan Super League game said, “Babar Azam lifting the World Cup 2023’s trophy at Wankhede Stadium Mumbai will fulfil my wish of World Cup 2011 which was stopped in Mohali.” Notably, in 2011 India, with help of Sachin Tendulkar’s amazing half-century and Zaheer Khan’s bowling performances, beat Pakistan in the second semi-finals at Mohali stadium.

Although earlier, Shoaib Akhtar was brutally trolled by netizens for his ‘English’ comments on social media. “I want to openly say that Babar Azam should be the biggest brand in Pakistan, but why hasn’t he become the biggest brand in Pakistan? Because he can’t speak English.”

Former PCB chief Ramiz Raja slammed Akhtar for his comments

Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja blasted Shoaib Akhtar on a local TV news program, saying the retired pacer should focus on being a better human first and a brand second. The remark came in response to Akhtar’s recent claim that Babar Azam cannot become a global brand in world cricket due to his difficulty speaking English.

“Shoaib Akhtar is a delusional superstar. He also had an issue recently with Kamran Akmal. He wants everyone to become a brand, but it is more important to become a human first. First, become a human and then a brand. Our former players degrade our cricket brand by giving delusional statements.”

“You will never see that happening in our neighbouring country. You will never see Sunil Gavaskar criticizing Rahul Dravid. It only happens in Pakistan, where former players don’t let others do their job professionally,” Raja told Bol News.

Meanwhile, fans trolled Akhtar after he wished to win the World Cup in India. A Twitter user said, “Pehle apne desh me Test series to jeet lo.”
