Ahead of the World Test Championship final, India skipper Rohit Sharma has expressed his desire to win Global tournaments as captain. Under him, the Men In Blue managed to defend the Asia Cup title in 2018. Apart from this, the Asian side hasn’t been able to win a World tournament since 2013. Since then, they played finals in 2014, 2017, and 2021 but failed to cross the line.

Meanwhile, ahead of the WTC final 2023 against Australia, Sharma said that he has the job of taking Indian cricket forward. He added that the team plays to win titles and would like to win one to two titles as captain.

“I’ve gotten the job to take the Indian cricket forward and win games and championships. We play to win some titles. I would like to win 1-2 ICC titles as a captain.”

We made a few mistakes in the last WTC final: Rohit Sharma

Apart from this, the 36-year-old spoke to the media ahead of the summit clash. A reporter asked whether the Indian team has learned from the mistakes made last time. In reply, the right-hander said that the team knows what exactly went wrong two years ago.

“Yeah, look, last time we played, we did make a few mistakes, which we have already spoken about in this group. Obviously, there are a few guys missing from that squad. But yeah, I mean, we are quite excited about the score as well. You know, it’s a good challenge to have. And yeah, we know exactly what went wrong for us in the last championship final. So we hopefully will not repeat those kind of things. That is all you want to do as a sportsman. You don’t want to repeat mistakes that can get the better results eventually. So we’ve played the opposition a fair bit in the last two or three months so we know what they are capable of – so it’s just about considering all the factors and pulling it through.”
