‘Pathan brothers do it again’ – Twitter in awe as Pathan brothers guide Bhilwara Kings to five-wicket win over Gujarat Giants

Bhilwara Kings registered a thrilling five-wicket win over Gujarat Giants in the 11th match of the Legends League Cricket (LLC) in Jodhpur on September 30, Friday. Bhilwara Kings are now level with the table-toppers, India Capitals, with seven points in six games and are two points clear of Gujarat Giants, who are third on the table.

It was Bhilwara Kings skipper Irfan Pathan who won the toss and put Gujarat Giants to bat first. Opener Chris Gayle top-scored for the Giants with a blistering 68 off 40 balls, including nine fours and three sixes. The finishing touches were given by Yashpal Singh, coming in at number five, with a valuable 58 off 37, taking his side to 186 in 20 overs. The pick of the Bhilwara Kings bowlers was Shane Watson, who finished with 1 for 21 in three overs.

Bhilwara Kings’s chase started off strongly, with the openers William Porterfield and Morne van Wyk adding 57 runs on board in the first six overs, before van Wyk fell prey for 26 off 16 in the sixth over. Porterfield, the top scorer of the side, departed in the 12th over for 40 off 37. And then came important contributions from Yusuf Pathan and Jesal Karia, who scored 39 off 18 and 39* off 24 respectively.

In came Irfan once Yusuf departed when Bhilwara Kings needed 44 off 26 with five wickets in hand. Rayad Emrit, who bowled the 17th over, conceded a whopping 17 runs, and the match was firmly in Kings’s grasp from then on. The 18th over by Thisara Perera went for 11 runs, followed by yet another 11-run over in the 19th off Mitchell McClenaghan. And it was virtually academic for Irfan and Karia in the last over, needing just 4 runs. 

The chase was complete with two balls to spare, courtesy of Irfan, who scored an unbeaten 26 off 14, along with Karia. For Shane Watson’s side, it was the starlet English spinner, Graeme Swann, who starred with the ball, finishing with figures of 2 for 21. Yusuf was given the Player of the Match for his all-round performance.
