Papua New Guinea beat Singapore by 3 wickets in the 2nd T20I to level series 1-1
After losing the first T20 international by 18 runs, the Papua New Guinea made a roaring comeback on Sunday in the second match. Singapore, once again, batted first and scored a mammoth score of 203 runs in the first innings. Opener, Surendran Chandramohan smashed a century off just 52 balls, a knock which was laced with 7 fours and as many sixes.
Later, Aman Desai (30 off 23) and Arjun Mutreja (35 of 25) made notable contributions and took the team to a pretty good score on the board.
For PNG, Damien Ravu was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 3 wickets for 53 runs in 4 overs. Besides, the likes of Simon Atai, Semo Kamea and Norman Vanua picked one wicket each.
In reply, Papua New Guinea chased down the score 2 with balls left in the match. Much like Singapore, PNG didn’t make a great start either. The likes of Lega Siaka, Assad Vala and Charles Amini all got out early in the innings. The first three wickets fell for just 5 runs on the board and it became 5 for 53 in 7.1 overs.
However, little did Singapore know what was about to follow. Tony Ura took the matters in his hands and tried to launch every ball out of the park. He hit 9 sixes and 4 fours en-route to his match-winning knock of 93 runs in 40 balls. Norman Vanua played equally well, while batting at number seven in the order. He scored 71 runs in 37 ball, helping the team reach the target in 91.4 overs.
The four-match T20I series is now leveled at 1-1. The third match is slated to be played on 5th July Indian Association Ground.
