Mickey Arthur is expected to return as Pakistan‘s head coach. According to reports, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) management committee will finalise Arthur’s contract within two weeks. However, this time he will assume the duties online.

Arthur is expected to coach online until the ODI World Cup 2023, which is scheduled for this year in India. According to the report, Arthur will be available on the ground for only a few assignments. The former coach has promised PCB that he will accompany the team to India for the 50-overs mega event this year. Meanwhile, he will continue to work as a full-time coach for Derbyshire County Cricket Club.

Arthur’s contract will be the first of its kind, as the PCB’s management committee, led by Najam Sethi, wishes to bag his services based on his previous performance with the national team. The South African-born coach, who was Pakistan’s head coach from 2016 to 2019, will also make recommendations for batting and bowling coaches.

In Arthur’s absence, PCB will appoint an assistant to serve with the team on the ground. Arthur will be accessible to players online. Pakistan won its first Champions Trophy title under Arthur’s guidance in 2017. Pakistan has also won 11 consecutive T20I series under him.

Earlier this month, Najam Sethi hinted in a press conference that Arthur would be named head coach of the national team. “Mickey Arthur’s chapter is not closed as of yet. I am in contact with him personally. His return is still on cards,” the chairman management committee had said.

In the meantime, Twitter has been left confused by this decision. Many have been wondering as to how this entire arrangement would work in a World Cup year. On the other hand, some fans have been mercilessly trolling the Pakistan Cricket Board for their decision. “And Pakistan will download png image of ODI WC Trophy & Asia Cup Trophy online,” a user hilariously wrote.
